The Colorado Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak that sickened 28 people in June has now been linked to the nationwide Salmonella egg recall that has claimed 1500 victims nationwide.
Rattlesnake Cakes (with bad eggs) are the source
In June, health officials noted a cluster of Salmonella Enteritidis illnesses 4 times greater than the normal expected case amounts. An investigation revealed that at least 28 people had become ill after dining at The Fort Restaurant in Jefferson County between July 10 and 17. The common link between the ill patrons: they had all consumed rattlesnake cakes prepared with eggs.
Those eggs have now been linked to the two farms involved in the nationwide egg recall: Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms.
