Nestle USA of Glendale, California, has issued a nationwide recall of Toll House refrigerated cookie dough products after FDA and CDC officials linked consumption of the cookie dough to 66 E. coli illnesses in 28 states since March 1.   Approximately 25 people have been hospitalized, and 7 have reported complications of hemolytic uremic syndrome.  No deaths have been reported.

Nestle said it learned Wednesday night that federal officials had linked an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 with the consumption of raw cookie dough.  The company issued a recall notice this morning for all varieties of its refrigerated Toll House cookie dough, which includes brownie dough.

The FDA has advised consumers to throw away any prepackaged, refrigerated cookie Nestle Toll House cookie dough products.  Retailers, restaurants, and their employees should not sell or serve any of the products.
