Public health officials are warning people not to eat spices packaged at a Union International Food Company’s California plant under the “Lian How” and “Uncle Chen” labels due to contamination with Salmonella Rissen – a very rare strain of salmonella.
Over 40 people in California, Washington, Oregon, and Nevada have beomce sick after consuming foods prepared with the spices, causing Union International Food Company to recall its products. The company packages spice products for use in Asian restaurants, mostly on the west coast.
The products recalled are: White Pepper, Black Pepper, Cayenne Pepper, Paprika, Chopped Onion, Onion Powder, Garlic- Chopped, Minced, Powder, and Granulated, Whole White Pepper, Whole Black Pepper, Curry Powder, Mustard Powder, and Wasabi Powder.
